In order to accelerate its efforts in the seed sector, HEKTAŞ, the leading company in the plant protection industry and a subsidiary of OYAK Kimya Tarım, incorporated Akça Tohumculuk in 2019. The company name was updated to HEKTAŞ Tohum in 2020. As of 2024, HEKTAŞ Tohumculuk continues its operations under the name HEKTAŞ Tohum, aiming to build a bridge to the future with HEKTAŞ's strong foundations and to become a global game-changer in the sector.

HEKTAŞ Tohum conducts breeding programs utilizing the latest global technologies for seeds such as tomato, pepper, cucumber, eggplant, melon, watermelon, wheat, barley, corn, sunflower, and cotton. At its own research and development greenhouses located in Akdeniz University Technopark, HEKTAŞ Tohum focuses on breeding hybrid vegetable seeds. The company also carries out joint projects in collaboration with TAGEM, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, as well as with universities and research institutes.

As the first step of the “Traceable Safe Food Platform” project initiated by HEKTAŞ, a 5-decare greenhouse area at the HEKTAŞ Tohum facilities in Antalya Technopark, Akdeniz University, was transformed into a smart greenhouse, and the project was successfully completed. The initiative continues to expand through operations in the 30-decare greenhouses at HEKTAŞ F.A.R.M. in Orhangazi, Bursa, and also in farmer greenhouses.
