AKDENIZ UNIVERSITY TO ESTABLISH TÜRKİYE'S LARGEST AGRICULTURAL TECHNOPARK
Akdeniz University is launching a major project for Antalya. Rector Özkan announced that they will bring the region's first Agricultural Technopark to Antalya, Türkiye's leading city in agriculture.
Akdeniz University is implementing a significant initiative by establishing Türkiye's largest Agricultural Technopark on a 1,100-decare area in Antalya's Aksu district. The initial step in this project was taken during a visit by Akdeniz University Rector Prof. Dr. Özlenen Özkan and Antalya Technopark General Manager Dr. İbrahim Yavuz to Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank. With Minister Varank's support, the Akdeniz University Antalya Technopark Board of Directors, chaired by Rector Prof. Dr. Özlenen Özkan, convened and completed the necessary procedures by adopting a resolution for the expansion of the Technology Development Zone. Following the official designation of the zone, zoning plans will be finalized and leasing processes for R&D areas will begin to accommodate research-based companies.
Rector Prof. Dr. Özlenen Özkan emphasized that Antalya is one of Türkiye's most important agricultural cities and expressed pride in launching a project that will contribute significantly to this identity. Speaking on the importance of this project, which she described as a great achievement for Antalya, she said:
"With strong support from our Minister of Industry and Technology Mr. Mustafa Varank throughout the entire process, we have taken action to establish Türkiye's largest Agricultural Technology and R&D Center on 1,100 decares of land. Antalya is undoubtedly the leading city in agriculture with tremendous potential. With this project, aligned with Türkiye's development strategy, regional development strategy, growth priorities, and technology policies, we aim to develop sustainable agriculture and agricultural technologies in Antalya. This center will become a leading hub in Türkiye—and globally—for innovation, acceleration, and incubation in food, beverage, and agricultural technologies.”
Rector Özkan stated that the Agricultural Technopark will host cutting-edge R&D and product development (Ür-Ge) facilities and offer large, flexible areas designed to support global-scale recognition and the development of new projects. She emphasized that the Antalya Technopark Agricultural Technopark will bring together companies, research institutions, industry associations, and other organizations, forming a collaborative ecosystem focused on agriculture and agricultural technologies. She added that this ecosystem will help create and improve environmentally friendly, high-efficiency products and methods.
Following the Technology Valley Project within Antalya Technopark, the Agricultural Technopark will unite entrepreneurs and firms working in the agriculture and food sectors under one innovation-driven ecosystem. Rector Özkan concluded by expressing her best wishes for the center's success and extended her thanks to all contributors, especially Dr. İbrahim Yavuz, General Manager of Antalya Technopark.
